Very rare and interesting
Lot 315
MYSIA. Lampsakos (?). Circa 500-450 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 10 mm, 2.36 g). Forepart of pegasus with curved wings to right. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Baldwin, Silver -, cf. pl. V, 2 (in silver and of different fabric). CNG 94 (2013), 459. SNG Paris -, cf. 1116 (in silver and of different fabric). Very rare, a sharply struck and attractive example. Struck slightly off center, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

This coin forms part of an interesting series of hektai struck in very pale electrum with a pegasus on the obverse. Traditionally attributed to Lampsakos, the styles and fabrics of these coins vary greatly and they may, in fact, come from differing mints.
